‘Voices of Diaspora…I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes’
at the Grace Church on-the-Hill

The title I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes is taken from Psalm 121, one of 15 that comprise the Jewish Song of Ascents. They have also been called the Song of Steps and the Pilgrim Songs, and were said to have been sung by the Jewish people on their pilgrimage to Jerusalem to celebrate the three major Feasts. This program commemorates the 50th Anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic March on Washington and his ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. It highlights the unique relationship between peoples of Jewish and African heritage, and the similarity of their respective journeys from bondage to freedom to civil rights and liberties.
